Box Score

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Penn scored an early goal and held onto the momentum, handing the Lafayette women's soccer team a 4-0 loss on Wednesday night at Metzgar Fields.

Despite some early scoring chances by Lafayette in the opening minutes, Penn got on the scoreboard first. Katy Cross took a through ball from Heather Taylor and lobbed it over Lafayette keeper Amy Kalista (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) at 9:30.

Penn (12-2-1) added another first-half goal at 34:36 on a direct kick. A failed Lafayette clear sent the ball to Taylor who banged home a shot to give Penn a 2-0 lead.

In the second half, Penn added two more scores in the opening minutes. Rebecca Weber made it 3-0 with an unassisted score at 46:05. Three minutes and 10 seconds later (49:15), Cross netted her second goal of the game on assists from Anne Laughlin and Lauren Bome.

Prior to her final home game, Lafayette senior Kristy Buechele (Marlton, N.J./Holy Cross) was honored for her four-year career at Lafayette. Buechele has played in 66 career games and is serving as a team captain this season.

Both teams were definitely looking past this non-conference match to their weekend conference foes. Penn will face the other Ivy League frontrunner Princeton. Lafayette (10-7) travels to Holy Cross on Saturday where a win qualifies the Leopards for the Patriot League Tournament and a loss ends the Leopards hopes of making the four-team field.
