EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The first-round pairings are now set for the 2001 Patriot League Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments in Annapolis, Md. this weekend, March 2-4.
The tournaments will feature battles of archrivals in the opening rounds as Lafayette will take on Lehigh and Army will face Navy in both men's and women's quarterfinal round games.
The women begin on Friday with #4 Army taking on #5 Navy at 3 p.m. The 5:30 p.m. game features #2 Bucknell and #7 Colgate, while the 8 p.m. contest pits the #6 Leopards vs. #3 Lehigh.
The women's semifinals begin Saturday morning with #1 Holy Cross taking on the winner of the Army-Navy quarterfinal at 7 p.m. The second women's semifinal will feature the Bucknell-Colgate winner vs. the Lafayette-Lehigh victor at 9:30 p.m.
The women's championship game will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, on the campus of the highest remaining seed, and will be televised on the Patriot League Television Network.
The men's action begins on Saturday when #2 Navy will tip off with #7 Army at 11 a.m. The RPI ratings system was used as the final tiebreaker to decide the third-seeded team, and Colgate earned that spot. The Red Raiders will face #6 Bucknell at 1:30 p.m. The final men's quarterfinal round game features the #5 Leopards vs. #4 Lehigh. The game will be televised live on the Patriot League Television Network and will be available in the Lehigh Valley on WFMZ-TV 69 out of Allentown (channel 7 on RCN Cable and channel 8 on Service Electric Cable).
The men's semifinals on Sunday will see #1 Holy Cross take on the winner of the Lafayette-Lehigh quarterfinal at 1:30 p.m., and the Army-Navy winner vs. the Colgate-Bucknell victor at 4 p.m. Both contests will be televised live on the Patriot League Television Network.
