EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The 2001 Lafayette College Spring Football Game will be played Saturday, April 28, at 1 p.m. at Fisher Field. There will be no admission fee charged for this first-hand look at the 2001 Leopards under second-year head coach Frank Tavani.
Lafayette returns seven starters on offense and six on defense, including five Academic All-Americans, two All-Patriot League honorees, and the ECAC and Patriot League Rookie of the Year.
Flanker Andrew May (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Ketcham) returns for his senior season after tying for the team lead with seven touchdowns in 2000, while quarterback Marko Glavic (Pickering, Ontario/St. Mary Catholic) enters his sophomore season after earning ECAC, Patriot League, and USATODAY.com Mid-Atlantic Rookie of the Year honors. As a freshman, Glavic completed 53.5 percent of his passes for 1,964 yards and 12 touchdowns.
Defensively, Nick Boccagno '02 (Burke, Va./De Matha) is the leading returning tackler with 79 total stops last season, while Darnell Azeez '02 (Bronx, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) and Herb Kennedy '03 (Troy, N.Y./Troy) return to anchor the defensive backfield. A Verizon/CoSIDA District II Academic All-American last season, Kennedy is the Leopards' second-leading returning tackler with 57 stops and 11 pass break-ups last season, while Azeez put in strong performances in the first four contests of the 2000 season only to suffer a season-ending ankle injury vs. Harvard.
Lafayette concluded its 119th season of college football with a 2-9 overall record, and 1-5 and sixth place in Patriot League play. Lafayette opens the 2001 season at Towson on Sept. 8 at 1 p.m.
