Box Score

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette bounced back from an 8-0 loss to the Broncs to win game two of the doubleheader, 12-3, at Rider on Tuesday in softball action.

In game one, Lafayette (4-18) came up shorthanded against Rider pitcher Devin Karcesky, who allowed just two hits in five innings while striking out four. Sophomore Mara Shainheit (Mt. Holly, N.J./Rancocas Valley) and freshman Becky Foley (Jamison, Pa./Villa Joseph Marie) were the only two Leopards to collect hits on the game.

The Broncs (15-8) gained a 2-0 lead in the first inning off a two-run home run by Heather Dovak. Rider added to its lead in the third inning when Dovak scored on an error by Heather Danchak (Clark Summit, Pa./Lakeland) and Danielle Nagle doubled to drive in three runs to push the score up, 6-0.

Rider finished the scoring with a two-run homer by Michelle Peel.

Freshman Mollie Moschberger (Fairhaven, N.J./Rumson-Fairhaven) struck out three for Lafayette but suffered the loss on the mound, giving up eight runs on 10 hits.

Lafayette rebounded in the nightcap, however, starting off with a 2-1 lead in the first inning when Foley's double to center field sent Kelly Wise (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) and Shainheit home for the score.

Rider took a one run lead in the second when Peel drove in another run and Heather Boyle collected an RBI on a single.

The fifth inning belonged to the Leopards, however, when Wise doubled to drive in three RBI and sophomore Erin Allison (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) doubled to drive in another with no outs. A two-run single by junior Stacy Brewer (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) put the Lafayette advantage at 8-2. A sacrifice fly by freshman Laura Schrager (Montclair, N.J./Montclair-Kimberly Academy) and a three-run home run by senior Becky Chmielowski Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) capped the Leopards' 10-run inning and gave them the 12-3 win.

Next up for Lafayette is a pair of league doubleheaders at Colgate on Saturday and Sunday, April 7 &8.
