EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The 2001 Lafayette football season will see a Patriot League-best nine contests hit the television airwaves via the Lafayette Sports Network. In addition, all 11 regular season contests will be broadcast on WEST-AM 1400 for the 65th consecutive season, and the live audio and video feed of all broadcasted events will be available simultaneously on Lafayette's award-winning Web site, www.lafayette.edu.
The Lafayette Sports Network, the most expansive television package in the Patriot League four years running, can be seen by more than 5.2 million viewers in the Lehigh Valley, Philadelphia, the Pocono region, central New Jersey, New York City, and Boston.
Regionally, the telecasts will be aired on RCN TV-4 and WBPH-TV 60, and will cover the entire Lehigh Valley, as well as Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, Mercer, and Warren counties in New Jersey. Games can be seen on RCN Cable channels 4 and 60, Service Electric Cable channel 51, Suburban Cable channel 17, Blue Ridge Cable channel 5, and broadcast channel 60. All five home contests and the games at Princeton and Lehigh will be aired live, while road contests with Harvard and Holy Cross will be shown tape delay.
Popular local television sports broadcaster Gary Laubach will handle all of the Leopards' play-by-play duties for the fifth straight season. John Leone, Lafayette's Director of Alumni Affairs, will provide color analysis for the fourth straight season.
One of the longest running radio broadcast relationships in college football, WEST-AM 1400 and Lafayette football will again fill the Lehigh Valley airwaves. WEST sports director Dick Hammer, one of the most highly respected radio broadcasters in the Northeast, enters his 35th season of handling play-by-play duties. Providing color analysis on most broadcasts will once again be former WEST news director Mike Moore.
Nationally recognized as a leader in collegiate sports broadcasting on regional television and radio, Lafayette's Web site has quickly become one of the most popular mediums for Leopard fans. The sports portal of www.lafayette.edu received more than 1.3 million page views in the 2000-01 athletic seasons as 103 audio or video webcasts were made available.
