EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Freshman Patricia Austin (Huntington Station, N.Y./Walt Whitman) picked an opportune time to score her first collegiate goal, netting the game-winner on Saturday night to lift Lafayette past Army, 3-2, in women's soccer action.

The game marked the opening of Patriot League play for both teams. With the win, Lafayette improved to a program-best start of 6-1 while Army's record stands at 2-3-1.

The Leopards jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first 11 minutes. 2000 All-Patriot League First-Team selection Emily Myers (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) scored season goals number nine and ten just 41 seconds apart.

Myers took a through ball from sophomore Meghan Ramsey (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley) and booted a shot into the lower left corner of the net at 9:34. Sophomore Miriam Habeeb (Westfield, N.J./Kent Place School) assisted on Myers' second goal with a long pass.

The Leopards held the 2-0 advantage through halftime. Five minutes into the second half, Michele Veach's unassisted goal brought the Black Knights within one, 2-1. At the 78-minute mark, Army's Emily Biddick came up with the ball following a scramble in the box. Her quick shot tied the game, 2-2.

The Leopards responded just four minutes later when Austin boomed a shot through the Army goalkeeper's legs for the eventual game-winner, the first goal of her career.

Junior Marissa Mullins (Wall, N.J./Wall Township) recorded her second win of the season in goal. Mullins stopped three shots. Sara Johnson made two saves in goal for Army in the loss.

Lafayette returns to action on Tuesday in the second game of a four-game homestand. The Leopards host Fordham at 6 p.m.
