EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The women's soccer team battled to a 2-1 overtime win versus non-conference opponent Rider tonight at Metzgar fields. The Leopards improve to 7-2 on the season while Rider drops to 3-5 overall.
Freshman Emily Kellner (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland) lofted a ball to an open Emily Myers (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) in the 18-yard box who notched her 11th goal of the season to put Lafayette ahead 1-0 early in the first half.
Rider fought back to even the game at 1-1 off a goal by Colleen Evans.
Lafayette found itself heading into overtime for the second time this season after firing off 16 shots to Rider's 12 in the first 90 minutes of play.
The Leopards scored a little over six minutes into overtime when sophomore Kerrie Kiley (Greenlawn, N.Y./St. Anthony's) slid a pass to freshman Meghan Sweeney (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) who placed a low shot past Rider keeper Erin Wolleon for the win.
Rider (3-5) returns to the field when they travel to Albany tomorrow for a 1:00 game.
Lafayette (7-2, 1-0) travels to Loudonville, N.Y. to take on non-conference opponent Siena on Oct. 2 at 3:30 p.m.
