Sept. 8, 2001

Box Score

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette women's soccer team continued its program-best start with a 2-0 win over Mount St. Mary's on Saturday at Metzgar Fields. The win improves the Leopards' record to 4-0 on the season.

Lafayette and Mount St. Mary's played nearly the entire first half without a goal before Briana Rinchiuso (Norwell, Mass./Norwell) came off the bench to score with 31 seconds left in the opening half. Rinchiuso took a cross from sophomore Jen Gsell (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) and tapped it in. Rinchiuso's goal was her first of the season, as the junior midfielder missed the Leopards' first three games due to injury.

Lafayette wasted little time before adding an insurance goal. Junior Emily Myers (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) blasted a long, low shot into the lower left corner of the net to give Lafayette a 2-0 lead at 50:15. Sophomore Meghan Sweeney (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) collected the loose ball in the box and kicked it out to Myers who scored her fifth goal in four games.

Junior Ashley Wesmiller (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) played the majority of the time in goal for Lafayette, making four saves while recording her third win of the season. Freshman Amy Kalista (Metuchen, N.J./Metuchen) relieved Wesmiller for the final 12 minutes. Naiomi Campano played 90 minutes in goal for Mount St. Mary's (0-2). She stopped five shots and gave up two goals.

Lafayette returns to action tomorrow when it hosts Cornell at 2:30 p.m.
