NEWARK, Del. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's and women's track and field team participated in the Delaware Invitational on Saturday against a group of top competitors from Duke, Maryland, Penn, Delaware, La Salle and Rider. The men's team finished in fourth place while the women took sixth.
On the men's side, sophomore Machal Morrison (Kingston, Jamaica/Campion College) paced the Leopards with a first-place finish in teh 60-meter dash. Morrison's time of 6.91 qualified him for the IC4A meet in Boston, Mass. on March 2 and 3.
Senior thrower Jim Fischer (Dumont, N.J./Bergen Catholic) took the top spot in the shot put by tying a personal best 51 feet, 2 and 1/4 inches. Fischer also captured a second place finish in the 35-pound weight throw (52 feet, 10 and 1/4 inches).
Junior Herb Kennedy (Troy, N.Y./Troy) took second place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.96. Junior Jon Apostoles (Londonderry, N.H./Londonderry) also performed well, taking second place in the 400-meter dash (50.73) while classmate Alvin Lyte (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King Regional) took fourth in the event (51.42).
The Lafayette 4x400 relay team of Apostoles, John Farkas (Oaklyn, N.J./Collingswood), Kristopher Miszler (Hawley, Pa./Honesdale) and Lyte ran to a first place finish with a time of 3:25.49.
Other top finishers included sophomore Reggie Clay (Columbus, Ga./Columbus) who placed third in the 800-meter run (1:58.38), Kristopher Carey (Montclair, N.J./Montclair) who took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.62) and Mark Brault (York, Maine/York) who jumped to a fourth place finish in the pole vault (14 feet, 3/4 inches).
On the women's side, sophomore Natalie Bosserman (Arden, N.C./T.C. Roberson) captured second place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.44. Classmate Elizabeth Hallowell (Ottsville, Pa./Palisades) took seventh place in the event with a time of 1:03.02.
Senior Lauren McHale (Seaville, N.J./Ocean City) took home two third-place finishes in the one-mile run (5:15.43) and the 1000-meter run (3:03.70).
Freshman sisters Taryn and Devon Landers (Spring Lake, N.Y./St. Rose) took the six and seventh place spots in the 5000-meter run with times of 19:35.05 and 19:45.31, respectively.
Lafayette returns to action on Jan. 18 when it travels to Bronx, N.Y. for the Fordham Invitational.
