Lafayette Track Splits Dual Meet Versus Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's and women's indoor track teams split a dual meet with archrival Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. on Saturday. The Leopard men's team won 91.5-89.5 and the women fell 92-89 to the Mountain Hawks.

The men's team was led by a Lafayette sweep in the 200- and 400-meter dashes with Leopards taking the top three places in both events. Jon Apostoles (51.07), Kristopher Miszler (51.71) and John Farkas (51.82) dominated the 400-meter dash while Machal Morrison (22.71), Apostoles (22.9520) and Herb Kennedy (22.9535) captured the 200-meter dash titles.

Kristopher Carey led all runners in the 60-meter hurdles (8.29) while Carlos Garcia took first in the 1000-meter run (2:38.09).

In the 500-meter dash, Alvin Lyte (1:07.86) captured first place while Richard Jackson (1:08.42) took third. Morrison (6.92) and Herb Kennedy (7.04) also placed first and third in the 60-meter dash.

Lafayette dominated in the throwing events as Jim Fischer took home the 35-pound weight throw (52 feet, 5.25 inches) and the shot put (51 feet, 9.75 inches) events. James Mangarillo took second in the shot put with a throw of 45 feet, 7.75 inches.

In other field events, Robert Baroska captured first place in the high jump (6 feet, 6 inches), Mark Brault took second in the pole vault (14 feet, 5.25 inches), Michael Berginc placed second in the long jump (21 feet, 2 inches) and Andrew Maurer took second in the triple jump (12.5 feet).

On the women's side, Lafayette swept the one-mile run led by Erin Wyble, (5:19.23), Anna Sherman (5:19.89) and Lauren McHale (5:19.90). The Leopards captured the top three spots in the pole vault led by Ambyr Craw (10.6 feet), Olivia Tusinski (10 feet) and Kim Miller (9 feet, 6.25 inches).

Colleen Becker took first in the triple jump (11.22 feet) while Larissa Bellamy threw to a second place finish in the shot put (40 feet, 2.5 inches).

Lafayette landed the first and second place spots in the 800-meter run led by McHale (2:23.81) and Julie Harms (2:26.22). Elizabeth Hallowell took first in the 60-meter dash (8.18) followed by Craw who placed third (8.28).

Sadie Wetherbee (1:22.55) and Sherman (1:23.28) took the second and third place spots in the 500-meter dash while Wyble (3:03.67) and Sherman (3:10.13) took first and third places in the 1000-meter run.

Lafayette returns to action on Feb. 2 when it competes in the East Stroudsburg Invitational.
