EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's and women's track team joined over 400 athletes from 27 different schools at East Stroudsburg University to compete in the Third Annual Dick DeSchriver Track and Field Invitational on Saturday. Lafayette combined to win nine events while three Leopards set meet records in their respective events.
Anna Sherman captured the 1000-meter run in 2:57.99 for a meet record and was closely followed by teammate Lauren McHale who placed second (2:58.21) in the event.
Jackie Bingham paced the Leopards in the field events, winning the weight throw (43-0), while Larissa Bellamy took fourth in the event (41-4). Bellamy also took second in the shot put with a throw of 39 feet, four and one-half inches.
In the triple jump, Colleen Becker took second (35-0, 1/2) and Katie O'Connor placed fifth (33-4 1/2).
Elizabeth Hallowell took second in the 500-meter dash (1:19.58) followed by Julie Harms who ran to a fifth place finish in the event (1:23.34).
Lafayette's Kim Miller (10-0), Olivia Tusinsky (9-0) and Angela Coxe (9-0) took second, third, and fourth places in the pole vault.
Sadie Wetherbee and Natalie Bosserman combined for fourth and fifth place finishes in the 400-meter dash with times of 58.89 and 1:00.07.
On the men's side, Machal Morrison opened the day by setting a meet record in the 55-meter dash (6.43). Herb Kennedy placed third in the event with a time of 6.55.
Alvin Lyte had a strong day, winning the 500-meter dash (1:07.44), taking second in the 200-meter dash (23.16) and running the anchor leg of the winning 4x400 relay team. The team consisted of Jon Apostoles, Reggie Clay, Kristopher Miszler and Lyte, who ran a time of 3:24.12 in the event.
Also in the 500-meter dash, Clay placed third (1:08.12) while Brett Harvey ran closely behind for fourth place (1:08.65).
Jim Fischer went home with two first place finishes in the shot put (52-5 1/2), in which he set a meet record, and the weight throw (50-3). Mike DeGregorio placed fifth in the weight throw (40-2 1/2).
Colin McDonough captured the 800-meter run (1:59.78) while teammate Matt Taverna placed fourth (2:03.04). Taverna also took fifth in the mile run (4:31.19).
In the 55-meter hurdles event, Kris Carey took home the title with a run of 7.71 seconds.
Lafayette returns to action on Feb. 2 at the Bucknell Winter Carnival in Lewisburg, Pa.
