LEXINGTON, Va. (www.lafayette.edu) - Adam Rosenberg and Vince D'Angelis hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning of the night cap to lead Lafayette (6-4) to a doubleheader at VMI, 3-2 and 9-2, on Saturday at Patchin Field.
In game one, VMI got off to a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning, highlighted by a RBI double from center fielder Chris Brooks. Lafayette would answer scoring three runs in the sixth inning courtesy of a three-run home run to right field by senior captain Tye Gonser. Lafayette starter James Duer (1-1) picked up the victory, allowing only one earned run in the complete game victory. Phil Hendrix (2-3) took the loss for VMI.
In game two, Lafayette's Jason Boyd, Rosenberg and D'Angelis had two hits and two RBI each to pace the Leopards to the victory in game two. VMI (7-12) got on the board early in the second inning scoring two times. Matt Smith drove in the first run with his double to left to score Zach Kennedy, who led off the inning with a double. Ben Rand plated the second run for VMI, scoring Kennedy from third.
Lafayette responded with five runs in the third inning highlighted by a two-run triple by Boyd and RBI singles from Gonser and Rosenberg.
Lafayette starter Marcus Ward (1-0) picked up the win allowing one earned run and seven hits in six innings of work. Jeremy Harper (3-3) took the loss for VMI in the night cap.
These two teams return to the field on Sunday for the series finale. The game time has been pushed up to 10 a.m. due to rain in the forecast.
