Track Teams Finish in Top 10 at Univ. of Virginia

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (www.lafayette.edu) - The Lafayette men's and women's track and field teams each placed in the top 10 at the Lou Onesty/Milton G. Abramson Invitational on Saturday at the University of Virginia. The Lafayette men came in ninth and the women tenth.

For Lafayette, Ethan Blose was the lone competitor to capture an individual event title. Blose, the current school record holder in the javelin, won the event with a throw of 214'4". Jim Fischer spread his success across three events. Fischer finished third in the hammer (164'5"), fourth in the shot put (50'10") and fifth in the discus (152'2"). The Leopards' Blose and Casey McKeen also placed in the top 10 in the discus. Mike Digregorio finished ninth in the hammer.

In the jumping events, Dave Panther finished eighth in the triple jump (40'9 1/2") while Rob Baroska took home ninth in the high jump (6'3").

Ricky Jordan managed the only other top 10 finish, ending in 10th in the 400 hurdles (55.90).

The Lafayette throwers again proved to be the strength on the women's side. Maria Kinzel notched a fourth-place finish in the javelin (133'9") along with Jerri Pelletier who finished eighth (115'2"). Jackie Bingham posted a sixth-best performance in the hammer throw, marking a throw of 144'3".

In the running events, Mary Gillis's time of 12:20.13 gave her a sixth-place finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Laura Nann claimed a 10th -place finish in the 3000 meters in 10:20.28.

Natalie Bosserman (58.71) and Sadie Wetherbee (58.72) finished seventh and eighth in the 400 meters. In the 400 hurdles, Katie O'Connor finished eighth (1:07.72) followed by Teva Miller in 10th (1:08.42).

Three Lafayette jumpers placed in the top 10. Ambyr Craw and Olivia Tucinski tied for ninth place in the pole vault, with 10'4" efforts. Beth Loretz finished eighth in the high jump (5'2").

Lafayette returns home to host the Leopard Invitational on Saturday.
