Leopards Impressive At 2002 Lafayette Track & Field Invitational

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette's men's and women's outdoor track and field teams recorded 16 top-three finishes at the 2002 Lafayette Invitational held Saturday at Fisher Field and the Metzgar Athletic Campus.

Leading the way with first-place finishes were Beth Loretz and Lauren McHale for the women's team and Jim Fischer and Herb Kennedy on the men's side.

Loretz captured first place in the high jump, clearing five feet, three inches, while McHale took top honors in the 1,500 meters (4:36.65) and placed third in the 800 meters (2:14.14). Anna Sherman took second in the 800 with a time of 2:13.62.

Other Leopards recording third-place finishes on the women's side included Larissa Bellamy in the shot put (12.39), Katie O'Connor in the triple jump (10.45), and Jackie Bingham in the hammer throw (45.32). Bingham also placed sixth in the javelin (35.62).

Lafayette took fourth and sixth place in the pole vault, as Ambyr Craw cleared 11 feet and Olivia Tusinski cleared 10 feet.

In the relay events, Lafayette's 4x400 meter squad took second in a time of 3:54.00, while the Lafayette "B" squad took fifth in the same event in a time of 4:06.03. The 4x100 meter relay squad finished fifth, recording a time of 0:48.92.

Also placing on the track for the Leopards were Natalie Bosserman with a sixth-place finish in the 200 meters (0:26.40) and Devon Landers, who finished sixth in the 5,000 meters (18:50.54).

On the men's side, Herb Kennedy took top honors in the 100 meters (0:10.94) and helped the Leopards' 4x100 meter relay squad to a first-place finish (0:41.67).

Jim Fischer controlled the throwing events with teammates Ethan Blose and Casey McKeen. Fischer finished first in the hammer throw (48.48), took second in the shot put (15.48), and earned a third in the discus (46.71). Blose finished third in the javelin (58.38) and fourth in the discus (45.38), while McKeen was fifth in the discus (42.49).

Kristopher Carey and Christopher Nixon also garnered third-place finishes for the Leopards. Carey finished third in the 110 meter high hurdles with a time of 14.80 seconds, while Nixon finished third behind Kennedy in the 100 meters in a time of 11.01 seconds.

Also recording top-six finishes for Lafayette's men's squad were Robert Baroska with a fourth-place finish in the high jump (6'6.25"), Richard Jackson with a fourth-place finish in the 400 intermediate hurdles (0:54.97) and Reginald Clay with a sixth-place finish in the 800 meters (1:54.45)

Lafayette competes in the prestigious Penn Relays this week at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
