BETHLEHEM, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - On the men's side, Jim Fischer dominated the field in the shot put, marking a school record throw of 54'0" to take home the Patriot League title. Fischer beat his nearest competitor by over two feet. He also fared well in the hammer throw, finishing in fourth place behind a throw of 163'2". Fischer placed fifth in the discus with a throw of 157'1", ahead of teammate Ethan Blose in sixth place (155'4"). Blose continued his season-long success in the javelin, taking home second place with a throw of 208'5".
In the sprinting events, Herb Kennedy placed second in the 100 meters, clocking a time of 10.88 while finishing .14 seconds off the winning pace. Kennedy also turned in a strong day in the 200, running a 22.09 to finish third. In the 400 meters, Alvin Lyte ran to a fourth-place finish in 49:51.
In the hurdling events, Lafayette managed two top-six finishes. Kris Carey placed third in the 110 hurdles in 15.14 and Ricky Jackson equaled that performance with a third-place finish in the 400 hurdles (54.15). In the jumping events, Lafayette managed two top-five finishes in the high jump. Rob Baroska took second (6'7") and Andrew Maurer fifth (6'1 1/4").
The men's 4x400 relay took home the Patriot crown, running a time of 3:16.86 to qualify for the ECAC Championships. Lafayette finished third in the 4x100 relay (42.37) and fourth in the 4x800 (7:54.80).
The Leopard men finished with 86.5 points, behind Army (216) and Bucknell (124.5), but ahead of Lehigh (73), American (57), Holy Cross (33), Navy (31) and Colgate (30).
The Lafayette women finished in the middle of the pack in fourth place led by a title-winning performance from Lauren McHale in the 1500 meter run. McHale won the event with a time of 4:33.56. She also took home a fifth place in the 800, finishing in 2:15.87 behind teammate Anna Sherman 's pace of 2:10.69. Sherman placed third and set a school record in the event, beating a five-year old mark.
Katie O'Connor claimed a second place finish in the triple jump. O'Connor was edged out of first place by three-quarters of an inch, ending with a mark of 36'2 3/4". O'Connor also placed fifth in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:05.57. The Leopards claimed two of the top five spots in the pole vault. Ambyr Craw tied the school record with a jump of 11'6" to finish second and Olivia Tusinski finished fifth with a jump of 11'0". In the high jump, Beth Loretz placed fifth with a leap of 5'3".
In the throwing events, Maria Kinzel and Jackie Bingham came in third (136'1") and fourth (134'9") in the javelin. Bingham also added a fourth-place result in the hammer with a throw of 150'4". In the women's shot put, it was Larissa Bellamy who scored for the Leopards, finishing in third with a throw of 41'1 1/2".
In the longest event of the Patriot League championships, Laura Nann ran a time of 37:24.19 to place third in the 10,000 meters. Natalie Bosserman posted a third-place finish in the 400 meters with 57.80.
In the relay events, Lafayette's finished third in the 4x800 (9:19.83), 4x100 (48.80) and the 4x400 (3:52.86).
The Lafayette women ended with 89 points, behind Bucknell (159), Army (129) and Navy (103) and ahead of Lehigh (75), Colgate (58), Holy Cross (20) and American (18).
Both teams return to action at the Princeton Invitational on May 11.
