NEW YORK, N.Y. (www.lafayette.edu) - Devon Landers' second-place time of 10:27.97 in the 3000 meters led the Lafayette women's track squad to an eighth place finish in the University at Albany's Great Dane Classic on Sunday.
The Leopards also scored points in both relays. Kathleen Evangelista, Mary Gillis, Julie Harms and Tara Sheedy helped Lafayette to a fifth place finish in the 4x800 in a time of 9:45.95. In the 4x400 the Leopards crossed the line in seventh place as Cassandra Bryan, Deborah Fink, Elizabeth Hallowell and Elizabeth Rybas combine for a time of 4:07.28.
The Lafayette women also scored four other top five finishes. Jennifer Gibson placed fourth in the high jump with a leap of 5'1". Gillis and Evangelista also chipped in with fifth place finishes in their respective individual events. Evangelista ran the 400-meter in 58.91, and Gillis crossed the tape of the one-mile run in 5:16.51.
Lafayette rounded out its scoring with a fifth and seventh place finish in the pole vault. Daria Szkwarko cleared 10 feet, and Taylor Robinson vaulted over 9'6".
The Leopards finished with 32 points on the afternoon. Northeastern University won the Great Dane Classic with 152 total points.
The Leopards return to the track on Jan. 25 for a dual with archrival Lehigh.
