Lafayette vs. American

Jan. 31, 2003

Recap?|? Box Score

Lafayette Head Coach Fran O'Hanlon: You never want to say it was a must win, but we really needed a win tonight. I still feel confident and I just had a feeling tonight.

We didn't shoot really well from the line, and sometimes fatigue plays a part in that, but we made the ones that counted.

I think that on any given night anybody can beat anybody. I don't know if anyone gave us a chance against American but we were confident. It shows the parity in the league.

Justin Deberry, Guard: It was a big win for us, especially with the next few on the road. I think we felt it was a must win. Last weekend against Bucknell we didn't play the way we are capable of playing. We talked about it and recommitted ourselves, and I think you saw that tonight in our intensity and will to win.

American Head Coach Jeff Jones: We are just flat out not good enough to not get contributions for other guys. Steve (Miles) had a terrific game.

Steven Miles, Guard: To go out there and play as hard as we did in the second-half and not do that in the first-half is a shame. I think the outcome would have been different if we played with more spirit in the first-half.

Everyone has to look at themselves in the mirror. We knew coming in that their (Lafayette) backs were against the wall. They played and competed. We did not match them.
