Final Stats

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (www.lafayette.edu) - Senior quarterback Marko Glavic became Lafayette's all-time leading passer as the Leopards fell to Harvard, 34-27, on Saturday in Harvard Stadium.

Glavic completed 30-of-52 passes for 300 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran for a score. He now has 8,531 yards passing in 38 games.

Lafayette (3-3 overall, 0-2 Patriot League) built a 20-7 lead early in the third quarter before Harvard reeled off 27 unanswered points.

Harvard broke the ice with an eight-play, 83-yard scoring drive. Freshman running back Clifton Dawson capped the drive with a 23-yard run that saw him break a pair of tackles in the backfield before sprinting around right end.

Following a Leopard punt, the Crimson drove to the Lafayette three-yard line, but Adam Kingston's 20-yard field goal attempt from the left hash hit the right upright and score remained 7-0.

Glavic got the Leopards on the board 3:56 before halftime, scoring on an 11-yard draw out of the shotgun. Mike Beatrice's point-after attempt deflected off the left upright, leaving the score at 7-6 in favor of Harvard.

The Crimson drove deep into Lafayette territory on their final possession of the half, but Kingston missed his second field goal from the left hash, this one from 30 yards out.

Lafayette answered by going 80 yards in seven plays with Glavic finding Burkes on a fade route just 38 seconds before halftime. Beatrice's PAT put the Leopards up 13-7 and marked the first time Harvard had trailed in a game all season.

Lafayette took the opening kickoff of the second half 72 yards in 14 plays, eating 7:12 off the clock. A slant pass to Thomas Hall on third down moved the ball to the Harvard 10 and on the next play Glavic rolled left and found Tim Walsh in the back corner of the end zone for the score. Beatrice's PAT stretched the Lafayette lead to 20-7.

Harvard began its comeback on the ensuing possession. After returning the kickoff to the Lafayette 47, the Crimson capped a nine-play drive with a seven-yard pass from junior quarterback Garrett Schires to Corey Mazza.

Dawson has two scoring runs of three yards and a 71-yard scamper on consecutive possessions to give the Crimson a 34-20 lead with 2:11 remaining. The final touchdown came just four plays after a Glavic interception deep in Lafayette territory as the Leopards were driving for the tying touchdown.

The Leopards put together a final comeback effort, with Glavic finding Walsh in the end zone for the second time with 11 seconds remaining. The onside-kick bounced out of bounds and Harvard killed the clock.

McCourt ran 19 times for 103 yards and caught 11 passes for 74 yards. Hall grabbed six passes for 81 yards, while Walsh and Jeremy Burkes caught four passes apiece.

Defensively, Maurice Bennett was in on 13 tackles (10 solo, three assists) while Blake Costanzo tallied 11 (nine solo, two assists).

For Harvard, Dawson ran 26 times for 218 yards and four scores, while Schires, making his first start, completed 12-of-20 passes for 201 yards and a touchdown. Bobby Everett and Dante Balestracci were in on 13 tackles apiece for the Crimson.

Lafayette kicks off its second three-game homestand of the season next Saturday, facing Fordham on Homecoming at 1 p.m.
