BETHLEHEM, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette lost both games of a doubleheader at Lehigh in Patriot League softball action on Sunday. Lehigh posted wins of 11-3 and 6-0 to complete the weekend sweep.
Lafayette fell behind 10-0 after four innings, with Erin Hengemuhle's three-run triple in the fourth highlighting the Mountain Hawk attack.
The Leopard bats came alive in the fifth inning. Gianna Lopreato led off with a single and Laura Schrager followed with a walk. Mara Shainheit delivered a single to left center to load the bases with nobody out. Tara Martinho then lined a base hit back up the middle to plate two runs and bring Lafayette within 10-2. After a groundout, Meghan Davis knocked another ball back up the middle to score Shainheit and make the score 10-3.
Elizabeth Gripp had an RBI single for Lehigh in the bottom of the fifth to push the lead to 11-3 and end the game after five.
Megan Longo took the loss for the Leopards, falling to 0-2 on the season, while Danielle Resovich earned the win for Lehigh.
In game two, Emily Ling shut down the Leopard hitters for a second straight day. After getting the win in the nightcap on Saturday, Ling went the distance, allowing two hits while striking out 13 batters.
Lopreato and Shainheit were the only two Leopards to pick up a hit against Ling.
Lauren Belowich took the loss for Lafayette, falling to 3-8 on the season.
Lafayette (4-20, 1-9) returns to action on Tuesday with a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader at Delaware State.
