The Moss Chronicle

Sept. 10, 2003

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Editor's Note: Starting offensive tackle Kevin Moss will tell the story of the 2003 season through his own words with a weekly journal entry. In 2003, Moss was named third-team preseason All-America. He is also a two-time All-Patriot League honoree and was a third-team All-America selection by Football Gazette last season.

As a senior riding on the bus from Metzgar to the Marist game on Saturday, I thought about how my career as a football player had almost come full circle. Three years ago I sat on the same bus not knowing what I was getting into. I was a freshman starting against a preseason All-American and the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. We opened the season at home against Towson and lost 42-20. Towson was a team contending for a Patriot League title, while we were rebuilding.

This year, the season-opener was completely different. I am a much better player than I was three years ago and we plan on contending for a Patriot League title. Much like Towson was the favorite against us and beat us convincingly, we were clearly the favorites against Marist and beat them convincingly. We showed that this program is clearly going in the right direction.

I was so relieved to get out of the preseason because camp is definitely one of the worse things any man ever has to do. There are only so many times you can hit the same people in practice before you want to go hit someone else for a change. After this first game it was clear that we still had a lot of work to do if we want to reach our goals, but it was certainly nice to get off the practice field and go have some fun for a change.
