Box Score

WASHINGTON, D.C. (www.lafayette.edu) -Kristin Doherty scored a game high 16 points, but the Leopards were unable to contain a strong American offense, falling to the Eagles 72-54 in Bender Arena on Friday afternoon.

American scored the first points of the game on a Chanel Hunt lay up 45 seconds into the game and would never lose the lead. The Leopards tied the game at two on a jump shot by Naida Dupovac with 18:31 on the clock, but the Eagles would quickly regain the lead less than 30 seconds later on a lay up by Kim Salem.

The Eagles went on a 13-0 run to get up by as many as 13 points at the 12:41 mark after Hunt hit a three pointer off an assist by Kaitlin Schuyler.

A Doherty jump shot with 11:06 remaining in the first half ended the Leopards' scoring drought and started an 8-0 run of their own to get within five with just over eight minutes left on the clock.

Doherty capitalized on two free throws at the 5:00 mark to pull Lafayette within four, but strong offensive rebounding by the Eagles allowed the margin to grow back to seven, 27-20 to close out the half.

American opened the second half with two free throws by Chanel Spriggs just 11 seconds into the stanza.

The Eagles Joanna Barnes capitalized on two free throws of her own with 14:14 on the clock to put American up by 12.

After a Colleen Fitzpatrick three-pointer with 7:54 left to play, the Eagles embarked on another 14-0 run, putting the Leopards down by 21 with only 3:28 remaining in the game.

Another Leopard trey, this time by Michelle Hunter, closed the gap to the final margin of 18 with just over 30 seconds remaining in the game.

Colleen Fitzpatrick led all players with eight rebounds, also adding five points for the Leopards. Lindsay Myers added seven points for Lafayette, as well as recording a game high five assists.

Four players scored in double figures for American (9-9, 4-2), led by Schuyler with 16. Hunt added 14 while Salem and Spriggs added 13 and 10 points respectively.

Lafayette (0-19, 0-6) continues its Patriot League road schedule as the team travels to Annapolis, Md. on Sunday afternoon. Tip off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
