EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Holy Cross scored first and last in a 2-1 win over Lafayette in Patriot League women's soccer action on Saturday.
All of the scoring took place in an 18-minute span midway through the match.
Alison Peters came off the bench to connect for her first goal of the year in the 36th minute. The Leopards failed to clear the ball from deep in their own end and Peters took advantage of the miscue.
Ashley Yelland's first career goal evened the score at one just 1:53 into the second half. Yelland buried a direct free kick from the right side into the back of the net.
Mary Jones scored her second goal of the season just seven minutes later to put the Crusaders up for good. Christine Watson played a centering pass into the box, and after a scramble Jones was able to put enough of a touch on the ball to slide it past Lafayette freshman keeper Mary Kate Erdman.
Erdman, fresh off her eight-save performance on Monday, turned away seven Holy Cross shots on Saturday. Her counterpart, Jessica Pietrowicz, needed to make just one save in earning the win.
Both teams took nine shots in the match, with Holy Cross (2-7 overall, 1-1 Patriot League) holding an 8-4 edge in corners.
Lafayette (3-7, 0-2), returns to Patriot League play on Friday, hosting American at 7 p.m.
