EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Six underclassmen accounted for four goals and four assists as Lafayette shut out Wagner, 4-0, in women's soccer action on Wednesday at the Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex.
Freshmen Alison Hingley and Caroline Tuttle led the charge, both accounting for a goal and an assist. The pair hooked up for the Leopards' first goal of the night just 9:50 into the match.
Tuttle played a pass across to Hingley, who fired a shot from the right corner of the box into the top right corner of the net. Hingley collected her third point of the night just 2:23 later, setting up sophomore Jennifer Chamberlain's first career goal.
Tuttle collected her team-leading fifth goal of the season at the 65:56 mark. Freshman Caitlin Uff's quick crosser inside the box found Tuttle on the left side, who beat the Wagner keeper back to the far post.
Sophomore defender Trista Burke's first career goal at 75:16 closed out the scoring. Burke took a pass from freshman Kelly Galen at the top of the box and buried a shot into the left side of the net.
Amy Kalista made five saves in earning her fourth career shutout, but the defensive play of the night was made by Zoe Gavriilidis. A poor clearance early in the first half left Jackie Santariello with a look at what appeared to be an open net, but Gavriilidis swooped in and rejected Sanatariello's shot just as the ball neared the goal mouth to snuff out the Seahawks (3-12-0) best scoring chance of the night.
With the win, Lafayette snaps a four-match losing skid.
The Leopards (4-10-0) return to action on Saturday, hosting Army at 5 p.m. The match is Lafayette's final at home in 2004.
