Feb. 19, 2004

EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette senior Mike Farrell (DeLand, Fla./Father Lopez) has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District II Men's Basketball Team. It is Farrell's second career selection to the squad, as he was also named in 2003.

Farrell is in his second season as the team's captain and has helped lead Lafayette to an 18-5 overall record and a 9-1 mark in the Patriot League where the Leopards sit alone atop the standings.

One of just five student-athletes selected in District II, Farrell leads the team and ranks third in the Patriot League in rebounding with 7.0 rebounds per game. The 6-8 power forward is also averaging 8.0 points and 1.9 assists per game.

In his four seasons at Lafayette, Farrell has been a consistent presence in the Lafayette lineup, having played in 109 straight games and starting 78 of 81 games over the last three seasons. He has 537 career rebounds and ranks 16th all-time at Lafayette.

In the classroom, Farrell maintains a 3.33 GPA while majoring in American Studies in Lafayette's extremely competitive academic environment.

Nominees for the award must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or above and be a starter or key reserve for their team. The All-District II team is selected by a vote of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) membership in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington D.C. Each of the five selections will now be placed on the national ballot from which the CoSIDA Academic All-America team will be selected and announced in March.

Joining Farrell on the Academic All-District II team are West Virginia's Johannes Herber, Monmouth's Jason Krayl, Delaware's Mike Slattery and Duquesne's Jimmy Tricco who is also a two-time honoree.

Lafayette heads into a crucial Patriot League weekend, traveling to Bucknell on Friday at 7:45 p.m. to face the third-place Bison. Lafayette will then visit Lehigh on Sunday at 3:15 p.m. to battle the second-place Mountain Hawks.
