EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette will hold its annual Maroon-White spring football game on Saturday at Fisher Field beginning at 12:30 p.m.

The intrasquad scrimmage is the final of 15 spring practices for the Leopards and gives fans an early glimpse at the 2004 squad. Admission to Fisher Field is free for spectators.

The scrimmage will utilize an offense vs. defense format, with a modified scoring system in place that allows the defense to score points by stopping the offense and creating turnovers.

Lafayette, under fifth-year head coach Frank Tavani, returns five starters on defense, led by linebackers Maurice Bennett (108 tackles), Wes Erbe (104 tackles) and Blake Costanzo (94 tackles). The trio ranked second, fourth and seventh in total tackles in the Patriot League in 2003.

Offensively, Joe McCourt returns for his senior campaign following back-to-back 1,000-yard rushing seasons. McCourt enters his final season with 3,281 yards, third-most in Lafayette history, and 34 rushing touchdowns, second in school history.

The focus of spring drills for the Leopard coaching staff has been filling holes left by graduation. The most glaring is the quarterback position vacated by four-year starter Marko Glavic, while significant contributors were also lost at the receiver and defensive line positions. Saturday's spring game provides fans a first-hand look at who the favorites are to fill those voids.

The Maroon Club and Friends of Lafayette Football will host a pregame tailgate in conjunction with Saturday's spring game. The event will begin at 11 a.m. and will be held at Bourger Plaza, adjacent to Pfenning Alumni Center, in the southeast end of Fisher Field. Admission is $5 per person.
