BETHLEHEM, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette had its five-game win streak snapped on Sunday with a 3-2 overtime loss to Jacksonville in the final round of the Lehigh Soccer Classic.
The Leopards (5-2) trailed for nearly the entire game, giving up a goal in the 12th minute to Richard Blackburn. Jacksonville (4-2) added to its lead in the 53rd minute when Tommy Frizanovic scored on a penalty kick.
The afternoon was not over, however, for the Leopards who came storming back to tie the game. In the 74th minute Nathan Jolly scored his second goal of the season on a penalty kick.
With less than five minutes left in regulation (85:39), Lafayette tied the game at 2-2 when Buster Wiand reeled in a pass from Anthony Sepe and booted home a shot to send the game into overtime. The score was Wiand's first collegiate goal.
The Leopards' comeback fell short, however, as Blackburn knocked home his second goal of the game in the first overtime session to give Jacksonville a 3-2 decision.
Mike Tortora played all 94 minutes in goal for Lafayette, recording four saves while facing 17 shots. The Dolphins outshot Lafayette 17-13 and held a 3-0 corner kick advantage.
Jolly, Wiand and Ryan McCaughey were named to the all-tournament team.
Lafayette opens Patriot League play on Saturday at Colgate. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m.
