GASTONIA, N.C. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lafayette baseball swept a doubleheader with Canisius on Saturday, winning 7-2 and 13-7 to improve to 3-1 on the season.
In the first game, Matt Revelle threw six innings to earn the victory, his second in as many starts in 2005. Senior captain Adam Bucci delivered the decisive blow for the Leopards in the fourth inning when Lafayette scored four runs.
Fellow senior Rob Fioretti began the day with two hits and a sac fly in the first game. Freshman Kevin Reese made his first appearance of the season, throwing the final inning of the first game.
In game two, Lafayette trailed 6-1 going into the fifth inning before exploding for 12 runs while running away to a 13-7 win. Bucci smacked his second round-tripper of the afternoon in the rally while Fioretti (two-run homer) and Frank Cortazar (three-run homer) also managed to launch a long ball in the inning. Fioretti's home run was the first of his collegiate career.
Junior Ian Law also added a 3-for-5 performance in the batter's box in the second game and knocked in two runs in the 12-run fifth.
Sophomore Matt Kamine allowed just one hit while tossing 4.1 innings of shutout baseball in relief of starter Brian Cope. Freshman Jason Morytko threw the final inning of game two, his first appearance of the season.
Lafayette (3-1) plays the final game of the three-game series on Sunday beginning at 11 a.m. at Simms Stadium.
