EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Holy Cross remained perfect in Patriot League women's lacrosse action with an 18-7 win over Lafayette on Saturday afternoon at the Hart Turf.
Patricia Sutton, Kristine Corkum and Amy Archambault accounted for 10 goals to lead the Crusaders' attack. Kristin Ruminski scored three times for Lafayette (3-6, 1-3) and Madalyn Booth padded her season point total with a goal and a career-high five assists, which will move her into the top three in next week's NCAA Division I Women's Lacrosse rankings.
Sutton scored two of her four goals in the first five minutes as Holy Cross (8-3, 4-0) jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Kaleigh Mountain put Lafayette on the board with 6:25 left in the first half and Ruminski scored with 1:28 remaining to make the score 8-2, but the Crusaders netted a pair of late goals to lead 10-2 at the half.
Corkum and Sutton scored 46 seconds apart early in the second half to extend the Holy Cross lead to 12-2 before Booth sparked the Leopards to three straight goals. The sophomore converted a free position shot with 22:57 left, then assisted on goals by Emily Archibald and Ruminski in the next three minutes.
The Crusaders responded with four consecutive scores to put the game out of reach. Ruminski completed her hat trick with 5:40 left, while Kat Hueglin netted her first career goal with just under two minutes remaining.
Megan Orr (11 saves) of Holy Cross and Jaclyn Kushner (nine saves) took the decisions in goal.
Lafayette will head to New Britain, Conn. on Tuesday for non-league action at Central Connecticut State.
