EASTON, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Sophomore Maggie Condon scored just 6:33 into the contest, but Lafayette could not maintain the lead against an aggressive Penn team in a 3-1 loss on Wednesday under the lights at Rappolt Field.
Condon's unassisted score rolled past Penn keeper Elizabeth Schlossberg in the sixth minute, and the Leopards were enjoying an early 1-0 lead. However, the cushion didn't last long as Penn's Margaretha Ehret converted the equalizer on a penalty corner just 6:39 later. Meghan Rose and Jamie Calahan assisted.
With the game still within reach and Lafayette keeper Jill Lambert continuing to make stops, the Leopards were having a tough time keeping up with the Quakers' quickness. Penn's Nina Ferrier netted the go-ahead goal in the 29th minute, as her team entered the intermission with a 2-1 advantage.
Another Penn goal just 2:35 into the second period provided enough insurance for the Quaker's second win of the season.
Lambert played all 70 minutes in the cage and came away with 12 saves on the night. Schlossberg managed four for the Quakers.
The Leopards hit the road for State College, Pa. this weekend to take on powerhouse Penn State on Saturday at 6 p.m. The No. 7 Nittany Lions are the first of two Lafayette opponents currently ranked in the nation's top 20.
