EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette men's soccer team will honor the six members of its senior class in a pregame ceremony on Saturday night prior to kickoff against Patriot League opponent Navy. The Leopards (7-3-5, 2-1-2) currently stand in fourth place in the Patriot League rankings while the Midshipmen are in search of their first league win.
The six members of the senior class being honored are: Evan Cohen, Scott Hawkins, Mark Price, Anthony Sepe, Luke Sullivan and Mike Tilley.
Lafayette was last in action on Wednesday night, hosting No. 20 West Virginia in non-conference action. The Leopards dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to the Mountaineers. The defense played yet another solid game, limiting West Virginia to just one goal while the team edged the Mountaineers in corner kicks, 5-3.
Lafayette entered the week ranked sixth in the nation in goals-against average and after Wednesday's game that average stands at 0.58. The Leopards are also ranked third in the NSCAA's Mid-Atlantic Region and have been in the region's top-five all season.
Senior Scott Hawkins leads the team in scoring with five goals, while classmate Anthony Sepe is the team-leader in assists with four. Sophomore goalie Philip Nelson has started 12 of the team's 15 games this fall and has recorded seven shutouts. He has a 0.56 goals-against average to go along with a .870 save percentage.
Last season, the Leopards defeated Navy 2-1 in Annapolis with Luke Sullivan and Thomas Harju '07 providing the offense. Lafayette currently has a four-match win streak against the Midshipmen, dating back to the 2003 season. The two teams played to a 2-2 tie in 2002 and Lafayette's last loss to Navy came during the 2001 season.
Following Saturday's game, the Leopards will host NJIT on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. in their final home game of the regular season. A road game at Holy Cross on Nov. 10 marks the regular-season finale for Lafayette.
