Complete Lehigh Games Results
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lafayette track and field team made the short trip down route I-78 on Saturday to compete in the Lehigh Games at Lehigh's Goodman campus. Vanessa Youngs grabbed victories in the 100 and 200, while the throwing corps was once again led by Ashley Harbin, and coupled with an IC4A qualifying mark from Seamas McGuire in the javelin.
Youngs was the only Leopard to record multiple victories on the day. The senior used her best time of the season (12.54 seconds) in the 100 meters before recording a personal best 25.38 seconds victory in the 200 meters.
Harbin was competing for the first time since her victorious spot at the Penn Relays on Thursday. The Carthage, N.Y. native barely improved Thursday's effort, again tossing an official mark of 193'9" mark in the hammer. Harbin became the first Lafayette student-athlete to win a Championship of America title at the historical Philadelphia meet on Thursday morning. Junior Andrea Cerbie (158'5") followed Harbin to give the Leopards the one-two finish in the hammer.
Sophomore Sue Izevbigie continued her recent success with a victory in the shot put, again launching a 46'0" mark. Freshman Allison Tether wrapped up another stellar day for the Leopard throwing corps, placing second in the javelin at 124'6".
The Lafayette jumpers grabbed two runner-up finishes on the day. Junior Kristen Kalinowski leapt a season-best 5'6" in the high jump, while Jessica Buzzell notched a second place finish (15.76 seconds) in the 100 meter hurdles.
Lafayette's 4x100 relay team, comprised of Kisha Thomas, Meaghan Darling, along with Buzzell and Youngs also grabbed a runner-up time of 49.07 seconds on the afternoon.
The men were paced by McGuire's 200'5" IC4A qualifying mark in the javelin. The winning spot is a personal best and more than a 25 foot improvement since his senior year at Weston High School in Massachusetts a year ago.
Junior Ever Ruiz joined the McGuire in the win column, grabbing the 400 meter hurdles title at 54.21 seconds. Sophomore Adam Jones managed a second place performance, finding a 45'3" leap in the triple jump.
The Leopards now has a week to prepare before traveling back to Lehigh for the Patriot League Championships next weekend. Events are set to get underway on Friday, May 4.
