Game 2
BETHLEHEM, Pa. (www.lafayette.edu) - Lehigh completed a four-game sweep of Lafayette in Patriot League softball with a pair of victories on Sunday afternoon.
The Mountain Hawks took both games on Saturday, then won the first game 10-1 on Sunday before closing the weekend with a 5-2 win in game two.
Junior Kristen Ruckno hit a home run in both ends of the doubleheader and also doubled and scored in the second game. Ruckno is Lafayette's all-time leader with 19 career home runs, and set the single season record with 10 homers last season. She has three homers this year and leads Lafayette with a .356 batting average and 19 runs batted in.
In the opener on Sunday, Senior Megan Averbuch and Lehigh starter Lisa Sweeney matched zeroes through the first three innings before Ruckno homered in the fourth to give the Leopards a 1-0 lead. Lehigh responded with one run in the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead, and then scored seven runs in the sixth inning to put the game away.
Ruckno's home run to lead off the fourth cut the Lehigh advantage to 3-2 in the second game, but the Mountain Hawks scored once in their half of the fourth and again in the sixth to secure a 5-2 victory.
Lafayette will play its first home game this season on Tuesday against Fairleigh Dickinson after opening the year with 24 games either on the road or at a neutral site. The Leopards will host Holy Cross in Patriot League action next weekend.
