PRINCETON, N.J. - Ashley Harbin continued her dominant winning streak, as the Lafayette track and field junior used the momentum of her Patriot League title last weekend to become only the third woman in Lafayette history to be crowned an ECAC champion. Harbin launched a 195'2" spot to win the hammer throw on Saturday afternoon at Princeton University.
Harbin's mark bested her previous school record by five inches and is also an ECAC meet record distance. She receives All-East honors for the win and becomes the first Lafayette woman since Carrie Strong's performance in 1998 when she claimed the ECAC heptathlon title. Penny Erisman's indoor 20-pound weight title stands as the third Leopard ECAC crown.
Sophomore Sue Izevbigie also notched a successful meet for the Leopards, who qualified nearly 20 student-athletes for the ECAC and IC4A Championships. Izevbigie just missed All-East recognition with a 45'8 ½" ninth place spot in the shot put on Sunday. The top eight finishers garner All-East status.
Senior Tyler Jones capped off his remarkable Leopard career with an impressive 52'7 ½" shot put mark of his own in the IC4A Championships. The spot was good for 11th place.
The 2006 Patriot League shot put champion leaves Lafayette a nine-time qualifier for the IC4A Championships in his four years on College Hill.
Harbin looks to conquer her next goal beginning on May 25, when the Carthage, N.Y. native travels to the NCAA Regional Championship at the University of Florida.
