High Energy Levels Continue During Football Preseason Camp

Aug. 13, 2007

EASTON, Pa. - Now eight days into preseason camp, the Lafayette football team is not lacking for energy or intensity, even after the first two-a-day session was held on Sunday. One of the highlights of Monday's afternoon practice was a scrimmage with the freshmen and other underclassmen.

Head coach Frank Tavani was pleased with the performances he saw during the scrimmage.

"Each of the three freshmen quarterbacks got 10 plays, some of the other kids got in on all 30 plays," he said. "I wanted to give them the opportunity to get going because as we go on, their reps will start to decrease as we get more prepared for the season. I wanted to give the younger groups, particularly the freshmen and some of the sophomores who have been waiting for an opportunity, some live scrimmage work."

Despite the long day on Sunday with the morning and evening practices, the Leopards brought their usual energy to the practice field again this afternoon.

"The energy on the team has been great. I noticed it last night; they had an extra bounce in their step," Tavani said. "The first five days were the grueling three hour practices and we got through that pretty well. Now the kids are looking forward to the two-a-days where they get a little bit of a break during the day and more meeting time."

Two-a-days will now be held every other day, starting with a double-session on Tuesday. The morning practice will be held from 8:15-10:45 a.m. and the evening practice is scheduled from 7:45-9:30 p.m.
