EASTON, Pa - Lafayette field hockey fell behind Rutgers early in the game and despite its efforts lost in the season opener, 3-2, under the lights of Rappolt Field. Senior Courtney Dixon made her collegiate debut in the cage for the Leopards and recorded three saves.

Rutgers scored first from a penalty stroke by Amy Lewis early in the game. The Leopards responded with two goals from junior Maggie Condon in the first period. Condon registered the Maroon and White's first with junior Jaclyn DiSanti and sophomore Alison Schoch adding assists. Twenty minutes after her first goal Condon scored again to put Lafayette ahead, 2-1.

The Leopards did not hold onto the lead through much of the second half as Lewis converted two penalty strokes into the final goals of the game for Rutgers. The Scarlet Knights tied the game early in the second, but did not pull ahead with the game-winner until the last minute of play.

Lafayette returns to Rappolt Field on Sunday at noon against Cornell. Following the afternoon match, the Leopards' head coach Andrew Griffiths and assistant coach Jennifer Stone and members of the Lafayette team will host a high school clinic from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
