Leopards Shutout Davidson in Men's Soccer Action

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Senior Scott Hawkins scored twice to help lead the Lafayette men's soccer team (2-1) to a 3-0 win over Davidson on the first day of the UNC Greensboro Classic. With the win, the Leopards improve to 2-1 on the season.

Both the Lafayette offense and defense played a solid 90 minutes as the Leopards scored on three of their nine shots in the match while holding Davidson without a score in the game.

The Leopards came out firing to start the game and went on to score two of their three goals in the opening period. Senior Anthony Sepe got the scoring started for Lafayette, netting his first goal of the season at the 32:14 mark. Freshman B.J. Glenn was credited with the assist on the goal, his first of the fall.

Just over 10 minutes later, Hawkins found the back of the net for the second goal of the game as well as his first of the season. Mike Celentano and Evan Cohen assisted on the goal, marking their first points of the fall.

It took another 30 minutes of play before Hawkins would score his second goal of off an assist from Kenn Stearns. Davidson would take two shots in the final minutes of the game but a save by Lafayette goalie Philip Nelson and a block on the second shot preserved the shutout and the win.

Hawkins led the team with four shots while Sepe had two. Nelson finished the game with four saves to post his first career shutout. Through the first three games of the season, Hawkins has a team-best four points while Glenn is close behind with three.

Davidson's Machel Turner and Josh Zipin led the team with two shots apiece while starting goalie Ben Ashton allowed all three Leopards goals.

The UNC Greensboro Classic continues on Sunday with the Leopards facing host UNC Greensboro at 2:15 p.m.
