WEST POINT, N.Y. - Senior thrower Ashley Harbin (Clarksville, Tenn./Carthage Central (N.Y.)) broke the indoor school record in the 20-lb. weight throw on Saturday at the Crowell Open, hosted by Army. Her throw of 64'8" broke the record she set in 2007 by more than a foot. In addition to qualifying for the ECACs, Harbin hit the NCAA provisional mark which will give her a shot at competing at the NCAA Championships in March.
Junior thrower Osasumwen Izevbigie (Springdale, Md./Charles Herbert Flower) finished third in the shot put with a throw of 45'5¼". Senior Pamela Glennon (Holland, Mass./Tantasqua Regional) came in sixth with a distance of 40'11¾".
On the men's side, sophomore Connor McGee (Williamsport, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) placed second in the shot put with a throw of 50'2½". Junior Sean McAuley (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) turned in a fifth-place finish in the men's weight throw with a 45'10¾" heave.
In the women's hurdles, freshman Janica Austin (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) ran the 60-meter hurdles in 8.75 seconds, the third fastest time in school history. She qualified to compete at the ECAC Championships in March. Senior Jessica Buzzell (Milton, N.H./Spaulding) and freshman Kerriann Borke (Clay, N.Y./Cicero North Syracuse) finished sixth and seventh with times of 9.35 and 9.49 seconds, respectively. Sophomore Sifiso Takirambudde (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro South) tied for third in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.50 seconds.
Sophomores Kyle Clayton (Manasquan, N.J./Communications) and Matt Shaia (Richmond, Va./St. Christopher's School) gave strong performances in the high jump. Clayton tied for second (6'2¼") while Shaia tied with four others for forth place with a jump of 6'½". In the women's competition, senior Leigh Kalinowski (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) jumped 4'11" to tie for fifth place.
Freshman Jennifer Kihm (Quakertown, Pa./Western PA Cyber Charter School) finished second in the pole vault by clearing a height of 10'6". In the long jump, senior Emily Cholak (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) came in third with a jump of 17'9¾". Borke (17'8¾") and Buzzell (17'7") finished right behind Cholak in forth and fifth place, respectively.
The majority of the Lafayette track team will return to New York next weekend for the New York University Invitational, while select throwers will attend the Penn State Open.
