EASTON, Pa. - Former Lafayette men's basketball player Kerry Kenny was appointed as the Chair of the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) at the NCAA Convention held Jan. 10-14 in Nashville, Tenn. Kenny had been serving as the Vice Chair of the committee for the past year. The holder of the Vice Chair title then goes on to serve as the Chair. Kenny is the first-ever Patriot League student-athlete to hold this title.
"I am very excited and humbled to be able to be in this position as Chair of the NCAA Division I SAAC," said Kenny. "I have always had such a deep-rooted passion for collegiate athletics and the people that surround it, which makes this a great chance for me to cultivate my leadership skills and affect change for the more than 160,000 Division I student-athletes. I look forward to the year ahead, and hope to continue to make a difference and provide a voice for my fellow student-athletes, both in the Patriot League and across the country."
Kenny graduated from Lafayette College in 2007 with a degree in Economics and Business. He served as a captain his senior year after walking on and making the team as a sophomore. The Richboro, Pa., native currently holds the position of Media and External Relations at the Patriot League office. In that role he assists in all areas of media and external relations, serving as the primary contact for various Olympic sports. He also contributes to the Patriot League's championship administration.
As the Chair of the NCAA Division I SAAC, Kenny will serve on various committees, including the Division I Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee, Division I Management Council, Faculty Athletics Representatives Association and on either the newly formed Leadership Council or Legislative Council under the new NCAA Governance structure. He is also responsible for developing sessions and materials for the new NCAA Student-Athlete Development Conference in May and will act as the speaking agent for the SAAC within the NCAA and media.
Kenny will be joined in this leadership role by the newly elected SAAC Vice Chair Matt Baysinger. Baysinger is a track and field athlete from Kansas University (Big XII Conference).
