LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior Kristen Kalinowski (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) opened the 2008 Patriot League Indoor Track and Field Championships with a win for the Leopards. She took first place in the pentathlon with 3,539 points, qualifying her for ECACs and finishing second in school history. Kalinowski is just 15 points behind Sharon Lukenda who set the Lafayette record in 1984.
Kalinowski won three events and set personal records in all five. Her first-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles (9.04) is 27 seconds faster than her time at last year's Patriot League Championships. She also set indoor personal-bests in the shot put (33' 7½") and 800-meter run (2:31.21), where she came in first and fourth respectively.
In addition to qualifying in the pentathlon, the International Affairs major hit the ECAC standard in the high jump, leaping a distance of 5'7¼" to win the event and place second in school history. Her jump of 16'3" in the long jump landed her fifth.
Freshman Kevin Lees (Goshen, N.Y./Goshen Central) competed in the heptathlon for the Leopards. The final three events of the heptathlon will begin on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. The field events will begin at 11 a.m. while action on the track is set for 1:00 p.m. For more information, visit the Patriot League website at www.patriotleague.com.
