LEWISBURG, Pa. - Senior thrower Andrea Cerbie threw a distance of 172' 11" to improve her ECAC-qualifying mark and finish second in the hammer at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg this weekend. Her performance beat her previous personal-best by more than three inches, which she set earlier this season at the Shamrock Invitational in South Carolina.
Other strong performances came from sophomore Kyle Clayton who finished fourth in the decathlon with a personal-best 6,098 points. He took second place in the 100-meters, long jump, high jump and 110-meter hurdles while also recording P.R.s the discus throw, javelin and shot put. Clayton is currently in fifth place on the all-time school records list in the decathlon.
Sophomore Elizabeth Graybill placed eighth in the women's discus with a throw of 121' 9". Connor McGee finished 14th in the shot put for the men (47' 1¾") while Pamela Glennon came in 10th for the women with a throw of 40' 3¼" and Vicky Melroy took 14th (39' 2½").
In the middle distance events, Matthew DeBlander ran the 1,500-meters in a personal-best time of 4:01.11 to place 18th.
While most of the sprinters had the week off, the hurdlers were in full force this weekend as sophomore Sifiso Takirambudde competed in both the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles. He finished ninth in the 110-meters with a time of 15.19 seconds, a new personal record. Takirambudde also placed 15th in the 400-meters (57.12) while Mark Brown came in 28th (1:01.18).
Three Leopards participated in the 400-meter dash, with freshman Kyara Gray leading the pack to finish 12th with a personal-best time of 1:00.26. Junior Meaghan Darling placed 16th (1:01.54) and Kelly Clyde came in 24th (1:03.20).
Lafayette is back in action next weekend (4/18 and 4/19) when they travel to Princeton, N.J. for the Larry Ellis Invitational.
