EASTON, Pa. - The Leopards lost the first game by a narrow 4-2 margin before falling 8-0 in a four-hit shutout in the second game against Wagner. Sophomore Kasey Karr drove in both Lafayette runs and junior Robyn Matchett was 3-for-4 in the first game of the non-conference doubleheader.
In the fifth inning, with two outs Karr hit a RBI double into right center for juniors Matchett and Emma Kline to score. Wagner (25-16) maintained the 4-2 lead through the uneventful final two innings. Wagner was held to a single hit in the final two frames as Karr (9-6) threw her 12th complete game. She allowed seven hits and struck out nine Seahawk batters in the 4-2 loss on Tuesday.
Sophomore Danielle Wagoner (8-4) threw a four-hit shutout in the final game. Wagoner struck just two batters out en route to the 8-0 victory. Freshman Kristin Garganio had two of the Lafayette hits, going 2-for-3 in the second game.
Rookies Ali Henry (10-8) and Christine Hilcken split time in the circle for the Leopards in the second game. Henry started the game and went just over three innings before Hilcken stepped in.
Lafayette (22-18, 12-4) concludes the Patriot League regular-season at Army on Saturday and Sunday. The Black Knights (10-34, 5-11) are currently fifth in conference standings, one spot out of the tournament while Lafayette has the potential to secure the top seed and host the tournament. The Leopards clinched their Patriot League Tournament berth this weekend after sweeping Colgate.
