Box Score

Morgantown, W.Va. - The Lafayette men's soccer team scored its lone goal against Binghamton with just three seconds remaining in the game but ultimately dropped a 2-1 decision to the Bearcats on Sunday afternoon in Morgantown, W. Va. The goal was an own-goal against Binghamton's defense that cut the lead to one but with no time left, the Leopards suffered their first loss of the season.

Trailing 2-0 with only seconds remaining the game, Binghamton's Mark Wood went to head the ball out of the his team's net but instead put it into the back of the net for Lafayette's lone score of the day.

The Leopard offense out-shot Binghamton 14-9 on the afternoon as four Leopards took multiple shots in the game. Lafayette (1-1) could not convert any of those shots into goals, however, while Binghamton's two first-half scores proved to be the difference in the game.

Binghamton got on the board with a goal by Liam Carson at 23:31 following a corner kick. Bearcat goalie Jason Stenta made his first and only save of the afternoon on a shot by Chip Aronica at 36:27 to keep the game at 1-0.

With less than five minutes remaining in the half, the Bearcats scored their second goal of the match on a shot by Scott Zobre from outside the goalie box. Freshman Shane Pruitt had a look at goal with 1:30 remaining but it sailed high as the Leopards headed into halftime down 2-0.

Lafayette's offense was aggressive in the second half, taking eight shots to Binghamton's two. The Leopards fired off three shots in less than three minutes to open the half but none found the back of the net. Despite Lafayette's eight shots, Stenta did not have to make a save in the second period as all of the Leopards' shots failed to be on goal.

With less than a minute remaining, freshman Wayne Maminksi fired a shot at goal that sailed wide before Wood's header found the back of Binghamton's net to make it a 2-1 game, which stood as the final score.

The Leopards are back in action next Friday and Sunday when they host their eighth-annual Lafayette Soccer Classic.
