NEW YORK - The Lafayette track and field team saw five student-athletes boast personal best finishes at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games at the Armory Track and Field Center on Friday.
Sean Casey finished sixth in the 500m dash with a personal best time of 1:04.68, good enough to qualify for the IC4A championships. The time also leads the Patriot League among top finishes this season.
In his first 60m dash of the year, defending Patriot League Champion Kyle Clayton earned a top 10 finish with a time of 7.03. His time finishes third in the conference this season.
Freshman Nick DeRosa had a personal best in the 200m (22.72) while classmate Nick Henderson's personal best in the pole vault (14'3¼") was a top-10 finish and placed him sixth in the conference overall. Rob Blum placed fourth in the 800m (1:54.64), which stands at fifth in the conference.
Three women produced personal best outings in their respective events. Allison Hawkey's time of 2:18.81 in the 800m was an indoor personal best and fell among the league's top 10 finishes.
Sarah Welsh-Huggins finished second in the 1000m run, improving her personal best by four seconds (3:02.71). Kelsey Slater also had a personal best in the weight throw (43'3").
In the jumps, Joelle Neilson made the finals in the long jump and Kerriann Borke reached the finals in the triple jump.
The Leopards head to the Patriot League Championships in Annapolis, Md., on Thursday. The action begins at 10 a.m.
