ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Jessica Buzzell and Kyle Clayton emerged as indoor champions this weekend the Patriot League Championships, hosted by Navy.
Buzzell picked up First and Second Team All-Patriot League honors on Saturday during the second day of action. She became the long jump champion with a jump of 18'04 ½", edging the competition by at least four inches.
Her second place finish in the high jump (5'05") ties for first among the top conference finishes this season and ranks fifth on Lafayette's indoor record list. She also finished third in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.05.
The Patriot League rewarded Buzzell for her efforts, naming her the Co-Field Performer of the Meet along with Bucknell's Chelsea Musante.
Clayton, a reigning indoor champion, brought home a top-finish for the men on Sunday in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 6.88. His time, which helped him earn First Team All-Patriot League accolades, ranks first among finishes in the conference this season.
The men's 4x800 relay team of Chris Pregler, Matthew DeBlander Sean Casey and Rob Blum qualified for the IC4A Championships with their third place finish of 7:38.09. The distance medley relay team followed suit, also qualifying for the IC4A Championships. DeBlander, Pregler, Blum and Ryan Stasiowski finished third with a time of 10:13.10.
Kerriann Borke started day one of competition strong, winning the 60 meter hurdles and the long jump events of the women's pentathlon but ended up finishing eighth in the pentathlon overall.
Adam Jones (47'01 ¾") and Bradley Williams (46'06 ¾") finished third and fourth, respectively, in the triple jump.
Nick DeRosa posted a fourth-place finish with a time of 22.36 in the 200 meter dash - a top-five finish in the conference this year. Adam Ballester was right behind him in fifth place with a time of 22.43.
The men finished fifth overall with 48 points and the women finished seventh. The Leopards open the outdoor season on March 28 with a seven-way meet at home.
