Lafayette's pitching staff could not find its way past Virginia's heavy hitters as the Leopards lost both games of its double header against the Cavaliers on Sunday. Virginia's followed their 13-1 victory in the first game with an 8-0 win in the second.
In the first game, Virginia took an early 3-0 lead in the second inning when Nicole Koren hit her seventh homerun of the season, picking up two RBIs. Carly Winger's two-run homer and Sarah Tacke's triple helped the Cavaliers to pile on 10 runs in the third inning.
Meanwhile, the Leopards had a difficult time at the plate against Karla Wilburn, who gave up four hits in the five-inning game and did not walk a single batter. Lafayette scored its only run in the top of the fourth. Christina Giambrone singled to left and Stacey Kushner followed with an RBI double to center.
The Leopards did not fare any better in the second game after Virginia posted four runs in the first inning. Lafayette managed just two hits during six innings, and the Caveliers went on to win 8-0.
Freshman Carly Feiro registered her first career hit in the first inning when she singled to right center. Lafayette's other hit came from senior Robyn Matchett, who singled to left field in the third.
Lafayette continues its travels to Princeton, N.J., on Wednesday to face Rider at 3 p.m.
