EASTON, Pa. - The Lafayette softball team could not find its way home on Sunday, losing both games of its doubleheader to Holy Cross. The Leopards left 14 runners stranded, including four on third base, between the two games.

Sophomore first baseman Kerry Griffin went 4-for-5 in the 5-2 and 2-1 losses.

In the first game, Holy Cross held a 2-0 advantage after the top of the fourth inning. Freshman Carly Feiro, who pinch ran for Kristin Garganio after she drew a walk, put Lafayette on the board when she scored on a throwing error by the Crusaders' catcher.

Holy Cross responded with three runs in the next two innings while cooling the Leopards' batters to three hits.

Christina Giambrone belted a homer over the right field wall in the leadoff spot in the top of the sixth for the Leopards' final run. It was her eighth homerun of the season, one shy of her team-best total in 2008. She needs two more to tie Kristen Ruckno for the school record for most homeruns in a season.

In the second game, both teams refused to give an inch through three scoreless innings. Holy Cross struck first in the top of the fourth thanks to Erin Fleming's triple, which brought in a run.

Stacey Kushner provided some momentum in the bottom of the sixth when she doubled to left center in the leadoff spot. Giambrone followed with a single to center field, advancing Kushner to third. Kushner eventually scored on a passed ball to knot the game at 1.

The Crusaders reclaimed the lead in the top of the seventh. Gwen Reimer doubled through the left side and was advanced to third by Sam Lenhardt's bunt. Tiffany Medwid popped up to Giambrone and Reimer beat out the throw at the plate to score the game-winning run.

The Leopards travel to Wagner on Tuesday to meet the Seahawks for the second time this season in a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
