STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - The Lafayette softball team was primed to win the second contest of its doubleheader against Wagner, but the Seahawks rallied for a 7-6 win on Tuesday evening. The Seahawks also pulled out an 8-2 win in the first game.

In the first game, Kerry Griffin's single to left field in the top of the third brought in Lafayette's first run. In the next at bat, Jessika Smith, who went 2-for-3, reached on an error by Wagner's second baseman and drove in another run.

In the bottom of the third, the Seahawks connected for six consecutive hits off Kasey Karr and managed to score six runs before Ali Henry came in to relieve Karr. The Leopards closed out the inning with two quick outs after Ashley Olsen flied out to centerfield and Stacey Kushner threw to Smith to catch Jaclyn Vanore stealing.

The Leopards churned out just two hits the rest of the game and Wagner's offensive attack in the bottom of the third was too much to overcome.

In the second game, Lafayette was always one step ahead before the Seahawks scored three runs in the final two innings to steal the win.

The Leopards took a 2-0 advantage in the top of the first after Gwen Turner drew a walk and Christina Giambrone singled and both went on to score.

Lafayette continued to roll in the top of the second when Karr's double brought in two more runs to take a 4-2 lead. Lafayette headed into the bottom of the sixth but Andrea Lazzari's double to right field tied it up.

Giambrone singled in the leadoff spot in the top of the seventh and Kushner sacrifice bunted to advance her to second. But the next two batters were retired, leaving Giambrone stranded.

In the bottom of the seventh, Olsen drew a walk in the leadoff spot. Henry struck out the next two batters, but a passed ball allowed Olsen to advance to second. The next two Wagner batters both singled to send Olsen home for the win.

Lafayette (9-25) finishes its conference season this weekend with a Saturday-Sunday doubleheader at Colgate beginning at noon each day.
