WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Lafayette men's and women's track team crowned four Patriot League champions on Friday in the first day of the Patriot League Championships. Leopards claimed the long jump and javelin titles in both the men's and women's events.
Jessica Buzzell defended her league title to take first place in the long jump, posting 17'09 ¾." Kyle Clayton won with a jump of 23'04 ¾", improving upon his personal best and edging the competition by nearly five inches. His performance also qualified him for the IC4A Championships.
Despite a No. 7 seeding, Allison Tether won the javelin with a throw of 127'10, defeating Bucknell's Laura Rycek by a centimeter. Seamas McGuire improved his personal best by five feet to also win the event with a throw of 210'04."
Michael Thompson tied his personal best in the pole vault (14'09") to take fourth and Vicky Melroy also placed fourth in the hammer with a throw of 165'01." Alana Taylor finished fourth in the javelin (125'10").
After the first day of competition, Lafayette's women are in second place in the overall standings with 28 points while the men are in fourth place with 26 points.
