BALTIMORE, Md. - Less than 48 hours after its 4-0 victory over Delaware State, the Lafayette women's soccer team traveled to Baltimore to face Loyola on Sunday afternoon. After 90 minutes of regulation saw the Leopards and Greyhounds fight to a 2-2 draw, Loyola capitalized in overtime for the victory, denying the Leopards their second win in three days.
Loyola sophomore Maggie Ebner headed a ball into the back of the net at 97:38 off a corner kick from teammate Kelly Farrell for the game-winner.
The Leopards struck first in the game, getting on the board just 55 seconds into the contest when freshman Jill Dozier scored unassisted after kicking in a rebound off her own shot. The score was Dozier's second goal of the weekend.
Loyola tied the game at one at 16:18 when Farrell played a long pass to the right side of the field that Gomez deflected off a defender to gain advantage. After a few dribbles toward the goal, Gomez found the back of the net to even the game at one.
Coming out of intermission. Loyola looked to take the lead when Theresa Ferraina took a shot from the top of the 18-yard box but was denied by a diving freshman goalkeeper Lauren Smedley to keep the score even.
After the Greyhounds took their first lead of the game at 2-1, Lafayette struck back with 12:25 remaining in regulation when Dana Moyer scored the equalizer, setting up the overtime session and Ebner's game-winning goal.
Smedley tallied eight saves on the afternoon.
The Leopards will use the Labor Day holiday to refocus for a Tuesday evening showdown with Rider. Lafayette and Rider played to a 2-2 draw last year in Lawrenceville, N.J. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. at Mike Bourger '44 Field at Oaks Stadium.
