Eleven Named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll

EASTON, Pa. -

Eleven members of the Lafayette field hockey team were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday afternoon. Senior Lindsay Majno led the way with a 3.92 grade-point average (GPA).

The Economics and Business major was one of five seniors to be recognized by the league. Tri-captain Kelly Hilovsky, Neuroscience, posted with a 3.90 GPA. Meghan Cloonan, a History major, and Bridget Hilbig, Biology major, both ended with a 3.85 GPA. Psychology major, Amanda Saber, rounded out the seniors with a 3.32.

Juniors Cara Lyons (Civil Engineering 3.62) and Kelsey Andersen (Biology 3.33) were also among the honored. Andersen, was named to the 2009 ECAC Division I Field Hockey All-Star Second Team, Longstreth/NFHCA Mideast All-Region First Field Hockey Team, picked up Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year honors and was named to the All-Patriot League First Team. She was a recipient of three weekly conference honors this season as Goalkeeper of the Week (9/8, 9/21, 10/26).

Colleen McGowan was the lone sophomore in the group, the Civil Engineering major finished with a 3.20 GPA. McGowan played in 10 games as a sophomore.

Three freshmen were honored by the Patriot League, led by Geology major (3.82) Jaclyn White, who started three of 18 games for the Leopards. Chemistry major Mara Kish finished her first semester with a 3.67. The final member of the Academic Honor Roll was Emily Valeo (undeclared 3.50) who was a key component on the Leopards' defense. Valeo started all 20 games as a freshman and had four assists. She help Lafayette record a League-high eight shutouts in her 2009 campaign.

Lafayette finished the season under third-year head coach Andrew Griffiths with an overall record of 14-6 and 3-2 conference play. The Leopards made their third appearance in the Patriot League Tournament taking down No. 2 Bucknell, 3-2, in overtime to face defending league champions American. The No. 3 seed finished as the runner-up, falling 2-0 in the championship game.
